Sentinels of Illyria
Brief History of Illyria
Over 1000 years ago the “New World” was discovered far across the sea. During this time the prominent humanoid races came to settle in these newly discovered lands. A vague record of history proclaims much conflict between the native barbarian and goblinoid races but eventually through might and magic, the humanoid races (Man, elf, dwarf, gnome, halfling) staked their claim over most of the land.
Four great cities were constructed and the first empire of Illyria was formed. In the northern reaches there was Kyitalos, the city of craftsmen and inventors that was comprised mostly of dwarves, gnomes, and halflings. Petra was located on the east coast and was known for being the hardy lords of the sea, and they would amass the largest fleet. Corinwall was in the south and was the largest of all the cities. In the center was the first capital of Illyria, Greyguard. The empire grew under strict rule of a powerful, dark wizard, dictator known as “The Elder Eye” of Illyira. The Elder Eye and his following were revealed for what they were and their sinister use of black magic was brought to light. Eventually this led to civil war where the dark overlords of Illyria were removed from power and the Capital of Greyguard was destroyed in the conflict.
The remaining three cities created the new empire of Illyria while the conflict with the Elder Eye and his followers continued throughout the realm. During the war, there was the exodus of the Eladrin city of Moonhold. The Eladrin city fled from dangers in the Feywild that threatened their existence using a very powerful magic ritual called a worldfall. The worldfall transferred their home city from their plane into the natural world in Illyria. After Illyria secured the aid of Moonhold, the Elder Eye was defeated. Moonhold would become the new fourth great city of Illyria. Under a balanced government rule, slavery was abolished and together the nation of Illyria developed into a land of freedom, equality, justice, and hope.
